Clean and Green
Over the past five years, BID St Andrews has delivered major events, marketing initiatives and business support projects that have helped strengthen the local economy and keep St Andrews competitive. From The Big Hoolie and winter lights to the Love St Andrews app and year-round promotion of local businesses, BID investment can be seen across the town.
However, the largest and most significant project funded by BID St Andrews is the Clean & Green Team.
Delivered by St Andrews Environmental Network and funded directly through the BID levy, the team works five days a week, in all weathers, to provide an enhanced level of care for the town centre. Starting early each morning, they carry out daily litter picking, graffiti and fly-posting removal, street furniture cleaning, weeding, sweeping and pressure washing, as well as supporting St Andrews in Bloom, maintaining public spaces and responding to issues raised by local businesses. They also work closely with partners across the town, helping to identify and report maintenance issues and providing practical support for community events and projects.
Much of this work happens quietly behind the scenes, often before businesses open their doors, but it plays a vital role in maintaining the high standards expected of St Andrews as a world-renowned destination.
The Clean & Green Team goes beyond the level of service provided through statutory provision, delivering an additional investment in the appearance and upkeep of the town centre. There is currently no alternative funding in place to maintain the service at its current level.
What this video cannot fully capture is the scale and consistency of their contribution. Their work is often unnoticed because they prevent problems before they become visible, but without them, the difference would be felt almost immediately.
As the BID renewal ballot approaches, we hope this video offers an insight into the dedication, hard work and pride behind one of the most valued services funded by local businesses, and the important role it plays in keeping St Andrews clean, welcoming and vibrant for businesses, residents and visitors alike.
